Date: 2011-04-19 03:34 pm (UTC)Sounds familiar, too - you do *not* want to get me started on Autism Speaks, but the short version is that it's a group of parents of autistic children that has actually SUED autistic people to stop them criticizing it. That's the most egregious example, but I'm all too used to the notion that a marginalized group ought to be grateful when other people speak for them on the presumption that they couldn't possibly speak for themselves.

The RCP is a bunch if backward looking handjob merchants who really don't get it at all. Indeed, the first major protest by trans people in the UK was years back at another conference by, guess who? You got it! The RCP. I was at that protest and you'd have thought they might have learned something from that embarrassing experience, but no......
We were organising another protest for this conference, but now we may be able to do something more entertaining instead :o)
