At this point, there is one thing I know in terms of transition schedule - that I'll submit and swear my name change petition on Tuesday.

Work has stated that transition there cannot happen until I have my new ID, and that's what introduces the unknown. First, though I can't say this for every county, one does not walk out of the courthouse with the name change orders here, instead they are sent via post at a later point. The same goes with driver's license.

I'm hoping these steps happen quickly but, if not, it could be as late as May.

I can understand why they need official ID to change your name on official documents, such as your pay checks. But is there any reason they're not allowing you to at least begin the process at work, and begin using your new name socially at work, etc.? Or just stall tactics and/or bureaucracy?

Sigh :o(

It's just a whole lot simpler here and employers are require by law to be supportive.
