I used to work for a certain US company (whose logo looks suspiciously like batwings in a circle) And there was a story going round about an internal reorg.
A chap moved departments with insufficient seniority for a corner window office. The only place they could fit him in was in a vacant corner office. A cube was constructed in the office and the windows blacked out. It may be apocryphal, but certain sites were very strong on what space and facilities were due to an individual based on seniority. Small/large cube, inside office, office with window, corner office with windows. All that malarky.

the only one who didn't get a window was my boss; he got a proper office.
