Life and reading progress.
Sep. 13th, 2025 12:05 amWe are in our last week of living in Norfolk; by this time one week from now I will be living in Richmond. My life is full of boxes and work also picked this time to get very busy.
I darkened the doorway of the City of Norfolk Courthouse this week which proved to be a surprisingly quick affair, requiring just 49 minutes from shutting my car door to opening it again. I needed to file a petition to be a one time civil celebrant of marriage, which is to say that the Commonwealth of Virginia will grant to me the legal authority to officiate the marriage of two dear friends next month.
A bit of trivia: I do mean city courthouse and not county. In the US there are 41 Independent Cities - cities that are not also part of any county within their state - nearly all of which are in Virginia.
I have built up quite a queue of books and am trying to shift myself from social media to reading. I usually do only one at a time and e-reader works best for me but I do have a stock of dead tree volumes and the need to make a trip to the courthouse this week, which strictly prohibits bringing in electronic devices, led to me starting one of those.

Current reads are:
- Queen or Fury, the second in the Queen of Fate trio by Natania Barron. I previously read some of her other work and she used to be local to me.
- The Truthspoken Heir: the Stars and Green Magics by Novae Caelum
