I've had lots going on.
Thursday: Drove to Connecticut. Should have gotten the route advice earlier and avoided the Cross Bronx Expressway, which was doing a great impression of a parking lot that afternoon. We left the house in Durham, NC, a little before 8 A.M. and arrived at our hotel in Windsor Locks, CT, about twelve and a half hours later.
Friday: Visited the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, CT. We didn't tour the house owing to time constraints but did get lunch at the cafe and toured the exhibits. The steampunk one was great! That afternoon we headed north to visit with a wonderful group of friends, including
lietya,
shashalnikya,
fanboy_of_zeus, and
verycarla, all of whom I've known for over a year but this was the first chance I had to meet them in person. I apparently surprised a few when I had to dash back to the car to get my wristlet and I ran in 3" wedges.
Saturday: Wedding day! The lovely
verycarla and
fanboy_of_zeus were married in a simply beautiful ceremony! I was honored to be part of their day. The reception gave way to a smaller group enjoying conversation well into the evening. At length we had to take our leave, though, as we had to drive back the next day.
Sunday: On the road fairly early.
shashalnikya had given me an alternate route to avoid some annoying parts of I-95 and NYC, which was also a beautiful route. We met
joker2 for lunch and converstation in Woodbridge, VA. At one point she said to me, "my dear Danielle, only you...," occasioned by the story of my footwear misadventures at the wedding (in short: I can't walk and can barely stand in flats!)
Monday: Pick-up the cat from the vet, where she had been boarded, then have a job interview in the early afternoon, and take a midterm that evening. I think both went well. This was my first interview in corporate for over fifteen years; a message that was reinforced when I pulled-up to the building - it's six stories of black glass.
